Conestoga® Wagon Glamping

Step back in time without giving up modern comforts.

Our 1883-style Conestoga
Wagons feature a king bed, bunk beds, heat and air conditioning, and soaring interiors nearly nine feet tall.

Our two standard wagons have a private bathroom just a short walk from the wagon, while our luxury wagon includes a private bathroom inside.

Each wagon overlooks the bison's summer pastures and includes its own private stock tank pool when weather permits.

Wagon Season: April through October

Stay where the Bison Roam

Whether your perfect getaway is a cozy cabin with sweeping ranch views or a night of glamping beneath the Iowa sky, Sunset Hills offers a stay unlike anywhere else.

Bring the Whole Crew

Planning a family gathering, reunion, or group getaway? The entire ranch lodging property can be reserved for one group and accommodates up to 19 overnight guests. When the entire property is reserved, additional tents are welcome.

A Real Working Bison Ranch

Sunset Hills is not a zoo - and that's part of what makes staying here so special.

Our bison are managed according to the needs of the herd, the condition of the pastures, and the changing seasons. While guests often have opportunities to see the herd during their stay, bison sightings cannot be guaranteed.

The Cabin

Our year-round cabin sleeps up to  seven guests with one queen bed, three twin beds, and a queen sofa sleeper.

Curl up beside the wood burning stove, enjoy the quiet of the country side and wake up to birdsong, wide-open views and the possibility of seeing bison nearby.

Just when you think it can't get much better, end the day with a soak in the private hot tub!

Life is better at Sunset.

Care for the Animals.

Care for the Land.

Care for You.

At Sunset Hills Bison Ranch®, we care deeply for our animals - and for the land. If you follow us on social, you'll see that. We have a mutual respect for all of creation, and that care and respect flows onto you. Our friends, family, and customers. It is just the natural outgrowth of our enjoyment of farm life, and love of neighbor - and we wouldn't have it any other way.

We are also members of the National Bison Association, Minnesota Bison Association and Choose Iowa! We spend a lot of our time researching best practices and learning about bison. Bison in Iowa is not uncommon, however it is not widely known. We aim to educate across the state about American Buffalo in Iowa.

Savory Steaks

Most of our steaks are packed two per package. They range from 0.5lbs to 2.5lbs. They are best cooked medium rare. When bison is overcooked it does dry out due to the very low fat content!

Taste the benefit of bison!

Lean Links

Who knew hot dogs, brats and breakfast links can still be a healthy option?

Our bison dogs are a summer favorite and provide a guilt free alternative to a traditional hot dog.

Taste the love of lean!

Unreal Roast

There isn't much better than popping a roast in a slow cooker and coming home to a fabulous meal! Bison is the only thing that can make that supper any better!

Bison roast is very versatile and can be used in place of beef in most all recipes.

And more...

We must not forget to mention our amazing bison burgers and our ground bison. Our 1/3lb bison burgers are still bun sized after cooking! Due to the low fat, they do not flair while grilling and are a perfect addition to any meal.

We also have snack sticks, summer sausage. jerky, ribs and more!

Come experience Sunset Hills Bison Ranch® up close.

We offer guided ranch tours for groups, with rates starting at $10 per person (minimum 4 people). Tours can be tailored to your group and may include opportunities to learn about bison, ranching, land stewardship, and life on a working Iowa ranch.

We also welcome school groups for field trips and can bring educational presentations directly to your school.
