What lodging options do you offer?

We offer covered wagon glamping and cabin rentals on our working bison ranch. Both options are designed to give guests a memorable stay in a unique Iowa setting. One wagon has the bathroom inside of the wagon and the other two have a private bathroom just a few steps from the wagons.

What is the cancellation policy?

Sunset Hills Bison Ranch is an exclusive property where every guest reservation is both important and special to us. All cancellations will be confirmed via email; any cancellation fees will be detailed below:Deposits are fully refundable up to 7 days after booking. Between 8 days after booking and 45 days prior to arrival, the total balance of your reservation will be refunded, less an administrative fee of $100.00. Between 44 days and 8 days prior to arrival the reservation is 50% refundable. There is no refund for cancelation within 7 days of arrival or early departure, i/e reducing the number of reserved nights. A no-show on the date of arrival is considered a cancellation of your entire reservation and will not be refunded.

What amenities are included in the covered wagons?

Our covered wagons include heat, air conditioning, a king bed, and bunk beds. They all have a mini refrigerator, microwave, Keurig coffee maker and toaster. They are designed to combine a historic feel with modern comfort.

How many people can the cabin accommodate?

Our cabin comfortably sleeps up to 6 people. It is located just a couple miles off I-80 in Central Iowa.

How many guests can each wagon accommodate?

Each wagon has a king bed and a twin over twin bunk bed and accommodate 4 guests.

By booking our property, you agree not to hold us responsible or liable for any accidents or injuries that may occur while accessing and/or using the ladders and lofts.Absolutely NO unattended children in the pools or hot tub.Under NO circumstances is ANYONE allowed to be in the bison enclosure. Fence is electric.Absolutely NO unattended children around the bison enclosure.Absolutely No Smoking. Sunset Hills Lodging and Hold Your Horses Bison Ranch, LLC are smoke-free establishments. Evidence of smoking in the facilities, including cabin, shower house or glamping wagons, will result in a $250 fee.Wi-Fi is available in the Sunset Hills Cabin.No Wi-Fi is available at the Glamping Wagons.INDEMNIFICATION: Guests agree to indemnify and hold Sunset Hills Lodging, LLC, Sunset Hills Bison Ranch, LLC, and Hold Your Horses Bison Ranch, LLC harmless from any liability for personal injury or property damage sustained by guest or parties invited onto the property by guests or by any dealings on the bison ranch.GIFT CERTIFICATE POLICIESGift certificates must be presented at check-in along with a valid driver's license. Should I purchase travel insurance?

Travel insurance is optional, but we strongly recommend purchasing it to help protect your trip investment. Because unexpected things can happen—illness, emergencies, severe weather, travel delays, or other unforeseen circumstances—travel insurance can provide valuable peace of mind.Coverage is offered through a third-party provider at the time of booking, so we encourage you to carefully review the policy details and choose the coverage that best fits your needs. Please keep in mind that our standard cancellation policy will still apply, even when unexpected circumstances affect your travel plans.

Can we check in early?

Early check-in may be available depending on our cleaning schedule and whether we had guests staying the night before. Because we want to make sure everything is fully cleaned, prepared, and ready for your stay, we cannot guarantee early check-in in advance.You’re always welcome to reach out on the day of arrival, and if the property is ready early, we’ll be happy to let you know.

Is coffee provided?

We do offer a starter amount of coffee and other items such as toilet paper and paper towels.

What should I bring?

We recommend bringing any additional food and drinks you’d like during your stay, including bottled water and extra coffee if you’re a big coffee drinker. While some basic amenities may be provided, guests should plan to bring everything they’ll need for meals, snacks, and beverages throughout their stay.

What happens if I check out a day early?

If you choose to check out before the end of your reservation, we are unable to provide refunds or credits for unused nights. Your reservation holds the property exclusively for your scheduled stay, which means those dates may no longer be available for another guest to book.We understand that plans can change unexpectedly, which is one of the reasons we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance.
